When
I telefragged Shub, I was left in a horrible world. Her den
had no exit portals - once you're inside, there's no escape.
I think that the spike may have had something to do with creating
an exit, but I destroyed it when I destroyed Shub. So I slowly
climbed out of her hellish nest. But there wasn't much to
greet me at the opening - just a dark sky and burnt rolling
plains. For the first time in months I knew I was alone. I
fell asleep there.
Days
later I awoke. I wanted to go back to sleep, but could not.
I had to move on - it would not be possible to survive in
this lifeless environment. I had to leave my weapons inside
Shub's nest, for I could not climb the cliffs with a monstrous
rocket launcher strapped to my back. I wonder how I managed
to carry that thing at all, along with several other weapons.
Perhaps it was anger that drove me. But now it is hope, as
I sling my shotgun and super-shotgun over my back and stroll
off into the dirty barren plains.
It
had been weeks. I'd occassionally stumbled upon the odd animal
- my only means of survival. My hope had seemingly given me
a changing environment. No longer the ugly blunt hills, but
still that dark sky. Its mix of red and brown reminded me
of death all too much, in fact this entire world seemed to
be dying. Like a possible Earth a million years ago, destoyed
not only by mankind, but by nature itself.
The
environment slowly got warmer, and the dirt and grass began
turning to rougher terrain. Shrubbery started to form, but
never high enough to provide shelter. As days went by, the
sky changed. So did my luck.
Shub's
crib must have been dug deep into the middle of nowhere, so
far away from anything living that no one would find it. But
not only did I
find it, I destroyed Shub, and after spending weeks blindly
trudging, I now found the exit. It was a teleport!
I
stepped in, wondering where it would take me. If this is the
exit to Shub's hellish region, then I bet somethng nasty will
be waiting on the other side. But I don't have many other
options - continue walking until I'm dead from starvation,
or exhaustion? Usually I would not care, as I had done it
too many times before, but this time was different. This was
not a normal slipgate. Rather it was blue. I stepped in...
