To insure that OnTheWay Q3A works properly, follow these instructions: Unzip the file into the Quake 3 directory and make sure that the "use folder names" check box is checked. OnTheWayQ3A will automatically create a subdirectory in your Quake III Arena directory called "onthewayq3a." The program must reside in \Quake III Arena\onthewayq3a. If not, the the program will not work properly. Once installed, run OnTheWayQ3A by double-clicking the onthewayq3a.exe icon.
OnTheWayQ3A supports Quake 3 Arena retail version only. The demos and q3tests are not supported.
-
The command bar consists of the five buttons along the bottom of the OnTheWay interface. These buttons control the primary functions of the program.
-
Pretty simple. This will launch a Quake 3 deathmatch game with all the settings you specified in OnTheWay. If you've chosen any maps in the Maps section, it will automatically cycle through each one on the list.
-
Just like the Go! button, only this will automatically close and exit from OnTheWay when Quake 3 is launched
-
Pressing this will reset all OnTheWay settings back to their Quake 3 defaults. This will not effect your chosen levels in the Maps tab, however.
-
Exits OnTheWay.
-
Help. You seem to have found it.
-
Who are we? This is who we are.
-
- This is OnTheWay's most useful feature. It allows you to choose any registered Quake 3 maps or custom maps and play them in a game in any order you want. When you get to the last level on the play list, OnTheWay will start again from the first map. The list of maps you want to play will be saved automatically whenever you start a game or close OnTheWay.
-
- Lists all available .bsp files (maps) in your Quake III Arena\baseq3\maps directory. When the Show levels in pk3 files option is checked, it will also show any maps that are stored in pak files in the baseq3 directory (including the main pak0 file that contains all the registered levels.
-
- This list displays all the maps you have chosen to play. The maps will run in order, from top to bottom. At the bottom of the list, you can see the number of maps you currently have in your list, as well as the total time it will take to play through all the maps on the list (if you have set a Time Limit).
-
- Located between the two level lists, the arrow buttons are used to add and remove levels you want to play in your deathmatch game. The > button will take the selected level* from the Available Levels list and move it to the Levels to Play list. The >> button will move all the maps listed in the Quake Levels list to the Levels to Play list. The < button will remove a selected map from the Levels to play list and put it back in the Available Levels list. Finally, the << button removes all maps from the Levels to Play list and puts them back in the Available Levels list.
*Note that you can select more then one map at a time in either list by dragging with the mouse or using the mouse to select levels along with the Shift or Control buttons.
-
- The move up and move down buttons allow you to move a selected map in the Levels to Play list up or down. This allows you to easily control the order in which the maps are played. The top and bottom buttons move the selected map to the top or bottom of the list.
-
- The Refresh button updates the list shown in the Quake Levels list. You can use this if you add a new .bsp file to your map directory while OnTheWay is running. Hitting Refresh will show any new maps added to the directory.
-
- Pressing this button will randomize the order of the maps in the Levels to Play list. If you like to play the same list of maps often, this feature is useful to add a bit of variety to gameplay. Selecting the Auto Randomize option will automatically randomize the map list every time you start a server.
-
- Checking this box will display any maps that are stored in pak files in the baseq3 directory (including the main pak0 file that contains all the registered levels).
-
-
- These are all the settings that are contained in the Quake 3 multiplayer menu, plus a few extra ones. Most of these are fairly well documented in the Quake 3 manual.
-
Sets several physics-related properties in the game, such as player movement speed, gravity, and the amount of knockback force weapons give.
-
- Sets a few gameplay options.
-
- Set to Free For All Deathmatch, 1 Vs 1 Tournament Play, standard Teamplay, or Capture the Flag.
-
- These allow a level to end without a player going through a level exit. Limits are disabled when their values are set to 0.
- Frag Limit: The level will end and the game will advance to the next map as soon as any player reaches the specified number of frags.
- Time Limit: The level will end and the game will advance to the next map when the time specified (in minutes) elapses. The Max Time indicates the total amount of time in minutes it will take to play through all the maps in the Levels to Play List, given the set Time Limit (and not counting levels ended by the fraglimit).
- Capture Limit: In a CTF game, the level will end and the game will advance to the next map when the the specified number of flag captures have been reached.
- See the help files included with Quake 3 for a description of these functions.
- OnTheWayQ3A preferences. The most useful feature is the OnTheWay profiles box. This lets you save multiple gameplay/map list configurations for different kinds of servers.
