INCOMING MESSAGE FROM CORPORAL MCCULLOUGH, USMC
PRIORITY: URGENT
SUBJECT:
NEW MISSION

Greetings, soldier.

The Strogg onslaught continues unrelentingly. Seven weeks ago, a top security military research lab was overrun by these beasts, leaving not a single human survivor. We now believe this installation was targeted for a specific reason. It was discovered soon after that the entire contents of the computer network file system maintained by the lab were compromised in the attack. As a top-ranked systems specialist, I am sure you can understand the ramifications of this horrible discovery. The Strogg now possess all knowledge, down to every last technical detail, of many of our planet's most bleeding-edge military research projects.

While the cause for concern surrounding this incident was and is great, further need for reaction presented itself two days ago, when our intel satellites positioned in the atmosphere above Stroggos began registering enormous pulses of radiant energy. Fortunately, we have identified major portions of this pulse energy type as one rather familiar to our own military research resources. Unfortunately, however, the conclusion is obvious.

The Strogg have developed their own version of the slipgate device.

With a functioning slipgate network on Earth under Strogg control, humanity's chances for surviving this nightmarish assault may disappear forever. The Strogg are no doubt working feverishly to complete construction and testing of the machine, an endeavor which cannot, under any circumstances, come to fruition.

By employing a wide variety of intelligence agents, from nanotech planetary surface sensors to advanced aerial stealth probes, we have determined that the Strogg military information network, much like our own, is entirely separate from its global public media grid. Our top software engineers have been working around the clock, analyzing stolen Strogg program modules and network blueprints, and developing the necessary countermeasures. Our intel satellites have also discovered a small 'cyborgization' plant near the sea of Stroggos, far off from the dense military entrenchment of Cerberon. It is one of many hundreds like it on the alien planet; a place where the hideous war creatures are created and allowed to mature to their 'adulthood'. This plant has been dated as one of the oldest military installations of its kind, and it is lightly fortified. Data also indicates that it is indeed wired to the Strogg military network. It is for these reasons that we have selected it as the target for your mission.

You will be delivered alone via drop pod to the surface of the planet Stroggos. There you will penetrate the above mentioned plant and make your way to the main computer chamber. You will enlist your special talents for network espionage, theft and sabotage to complete your two mission deliverables:

1 - Steal the information which indicates the progress of the Strogg towards a completed, functional slipgate device, and

2 - Cripple the Strogg military information network.

You will be supplied with the necessary software countermeasures and training in their use. Once you have achieved your two objectives, you are to evacuate the enemy plant immediately via the plant's underground rail station, and rendezvous with an awaiting drop ship at the designated location, approximately 17 kilometers west of the plant, during the established safety window.

While preparations continue at a breakneck pace, Operation Alien Overlord is still months away. The future of the human effort against these cybernetic tyrants hinges on the success of your mission.

Good luck, marine.

- Corporal McCullough
