Currently patch vga.sys on Windows 2000 SP3, Windows XP SP2, Windows XP SP1, Windows 2003 Server (Media Center) SP1, too. so that Windows no longer traps ports of the graphics board while in full screen mode. This enables to run resolution higher than 640*480 on Nvidia graphics boards and the like (which currently sent the monitor to "sleep").

Simply run the program to install the patch. Should you encounter any problem thereafter, rerun the vgafix.exe to restore the original file.

WinXPFix Utility (ZIP for WinXP/Win2K): This utility fixes a problem in the VGA.SYS driver supplied with Windows 2000/XP, that sends the monitors to sleep with several video cards while running AS2. New version improved over 2.11, now including support for WinXP Service Pack 2 and Windows 2003 Server SP1, too.

February 2nd 2007: WinXPFix Utility now includes support for Windows 2003 Server (Media Center) SP1, too.

September 2nd 2004: The utility to fix the "Sleeping Monitor" problem has been updated to work with Windows XP Service Pack 2 (final release version) as well

Should you have any other vga.sys version, that this program doesn't recognize yet, please send that file to me (shradecky@nomissoft.com) together with the information, what Windows and SP standing you have got, for including it with the utility as well.

I found I had to still run NOLFB with my BUILD Games in order to use the new set of resolutions. At 800x600 I notice right away the game is a bit slow, and at 1024x768 the slowness was even greater.

You denfinatly need linear framebuffer at those resolutions.
