1. Installing and Running |
Installation |
You have downloaded the xxx.exe file:
Just launch CtG.exe and select your "Quake III Arena" directory.
You have downloaded the xxx.zip file:
Just make a "CtG" directory in your "Quake III Arena" folder, and unzip the files in it. |
Running the Game |
Run Quake 3 and select [mods] option. Then select the [Capture the Gunz!] option.
That's that easy |

2. Game Setup/Configuration |
Server Setup |
A server setup is accessible in the main Q3A panel. (See also the server.cfg)
- "ctg_ownage_bonus" [ 0 / X ] : Bonus given to a team controlling all the weapons
- "ctg_share_powerups" [ 1 / 0 ] : Enable/Disable powerups sharing
- "ctg_share_megahealth" [ 1 / 0 ] : Enable/Disable megahealth sharing
- "ctg_share_ammos" [ 1 / 0 ] : Enable/Disable ammos sharing
- "ctg_ammo_modifier" [ 2 / X ] : X times more ammo on pickup
- "ctg" [ 1 / 0 ] : Enable/Disable CTG mod... do you really need that ? ;)
- "ctg_capture_bonus" : frags bonus given to a player who successfuly captures a gun
- "ctg_capture_team_bonus" : frags bonus given to all team members when capturing a gun
- "ctg_capture_maxrange" : abort the capture if the player goes out of maxrange
- "ctg_capture_time" : base time needed to capture a weapon |
Player Setup |
When you're playing a CtG game, just click [TAB] key to acces the player setup.
- ctg_drawQuadEffect : [1/0] Captured weapons have a quad effect of your team's color
- ctg_drawHud : [1/0] Activate / Desactivate all 2D drawings at screen, xpect centerprints
- ctg_drawTeamMateIcon : [1/0] Activate / Remove the "team mate" icon above players head
- ctg_drawSmoke : [1/0] Activate / Desactivate smoke trails behind missiles
- "+stats" : display the CtG game statistics |

3. How To Play |
Rules |
CTG is a teamplay mod that gives all members of a team access to a type of weapon
when your team is the last to control its spawn point, while none of the opposition will
have that weapon until regaining control, which likewise deprives their opponents.
In addition to control of the arms race, these captures are a significant part of the
mod's scoring, as grabbing a weapon nets you three frags and two more for each of your
teammates. |
Team Play |
When a player picks up a powerup in the level (Quad, Haste, Regen, Invisibility...),
each member of his team will get this powerup too. However, the powerup time will
be divided by the number of players in the team.
When a player picks up a megahealth in the level, each member of his team will get it
too. However, the health ammount will be divided by the number of players in the team.
When a player picks up any type of ammo in the level, this player will get the full
ammobox quantity, and each member of his team will get a portion of this ammo quantity
(default is 1/5 of the full quantity)
The team with the most frags win. However, there are some other ways to score in CtG.
Players capturing guns will get a 3 frags bonus (default), and will give to each team
member 2 more frags. |

5. F.A.Q. |
Can I play a CTF game in CtG mod? |
Of course you can! In Q3A's start menu select "Capture the gunz!" as the mod you want to play.
Then run a server and choose "Capture the Flags" when selecting the map... That's all. |
I can't see the halo around the weapon |
Select "Show lights around guns" in the player's menu (click on the [TAB] key during a game),
open console ([²] key) and write "/vid_restart" and click [Enter]. If you still don't see the light
re-open console and write "/set r_dynamiclight 1" and click [Enter]. |
I can't capture any weapons |
You are not playing the good mod. Restart Quake and select "CtG!" as the mod you want to play. |
