There is also observation areas to watch the players fight it out! Installation Instructions ------------------------- If you are reading this file, you have probably already installed Cow and Chicken, but please read these instructions to make sure you did it correctly. When you run the Zip you will be prompted for an install directory. Just enter Quake2\c&c directory when prompted. The game must be installed in a directory called c&c. Playing Instructions ------------------------- To connect to a Quake2 Cow and Chicken server, use GameSpy (www.gamespy.com) with the Cow and Chicken tab. To install the Cow and Chicken tab: 1. Download the gamespy tab from the Cow and Chicken homepage. Start GameSpy 2. Go to the VIEW menu and select CUSTOM TAB 3. Click IMPORT, and select the CC.QST file. Select Quake 2 on the left. Select the Cow and Chicken gamespy tab, go to File-Update This Source Click, and play. Your game directory will be set to "c&c" automatically. If you get an error about a sound or map not being found, you installed the pak incorrectly or did not set up GameSpy as above. You can connect to a server manually by running: quake2.exe +connect . The +set game arena is set automatically by Quake 2. Game Overview -------------------- Cow and Chicken matches are played in "arenas." Each map may have one or more arenas in it. When you connect to a server, you will have the options of going to a pickup arena or going to a single player arena. In order to enter the single player arenas you must have an opponent. This does not apply to the pickup arenas.Once you are in the arena you will be put in line to fight. See below for more specific instructions. Navigating the Menus -------------------- The menus are controlled by the same keys you use to do your inventory. (words in quotes are console commands, words in parentheses are the default key bindings)"invprev" and "invnext" ([ and ]) go up and down on the menu"invuse" (ENTER) selects an item "inven" (TAB) toggles a menu on/off. If a menu does not show up when you think it should, try hitting TAB a few times. Also, if you are in an arena and want to leave, hit TAB to bring up the observer menu. How to Play ----------- When a game is started in pickup or one on one arenas there will be a count down that begins the game. When this countdown ends the players on either team is wil be spawned at there respective bases. The game will not be over untill the flag is captured. At this point the players on the opposite team will be exploded. Gameplay in a one on one Arena ------------------------------- Once in the arena waiting area, you will wait in line for your chance against the champion(s). When you enter the arena, a 5 second countdown will begin. You will automatically be given whatever health/armor/weapons/ammo are configured for that arena. The members of the other team are given the same. Now you fight. When one of the players captures the opponents flag, that player is declared the victor. If all members of both teams die, the game does not end. Instead the both players are spawned in the observation booth and await their return to the arena. Be aware that the game is not over until the flag is capped. A dead player will respawn in 10 seconds and will continue the game from that point. Gameplay in a Pickup Arena -------------------------- After joining a pickup team you will be placed in the arena as an player. The game will continue untill one player caps the opponents flag. Be aware that when a player is killed in this mod he does not respawn, instead he watches the rest of the game from a chase cam. Becuase the chicken/cow flags have timers on them, it will be difficult to cap the flag without killing everyone on the other team. When you die you will be placed in observer mode and allowed to watch the rest of the round. You are about to play one of the most fun mods ever created for Quake 2. The Gameplay is a blast. The game features both multi-arenas and one on one death matches arenas. However, unlike other mods the action here is pure capture the flag. Please, read the contents of this file, as it provides a good introduction to the mod. Troubleshooting/FAQ ------------------- Heres is some answears to frequently asked questions. 1. I have problems installing the game.. A: You must install the zip file to the Quake2/c&c directory. Either the server is not running with the "c&c" directory set, or your files are not installed correctly. The server may also be running a map which you do not have in your c&c\maps directory. 2. How do I change to a new map. A: In this mod the players change the map. When a player wins four games in a row he is given the choice of selecting a number of "prizes" from a secrat menu selection. The selection includes a number of selections and changing the map. It is also possible forthe server administrator to change the map. 3. Is it cheating to change menus and go back into a pickup game you have been killed in? A: YES. Absolutly it is. Although I have tried to stop this by making it more difficult to do this I guess it is still possible. 4. What are the other selections from the victory menu? A: The selection includes spawning a player at ramdom outside the map, blowing players up, electrocuting players and changing the map. 5. Is the Cow & Chicken source code available? A: Yes it is. It will soon be posted at the website. If you need it sooner contact Reagle through the website. 6. How do I make a Cow and Chicken map? A: A cow and chicken map should have two arenas. One arena should be larger and support 4 to 20 players, it will be the pickup arena. It does not need observation booths. The one on one arena should have an observation booth, from where one can view both the flags. The flags in this arena should be no more then 30 foot apart. 7. What is the start_me file in the directory for? A: This can be used to start a server quickly. For multiplayer you will need to use gamespy or other front end. For those who dont have those, simply type "connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" at the console. Where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the name of the IP of the server. You can find these IPs on the Cow and Chicken homepage(see above). 8. I had some menu or something, but I lost it what do I do? A: You hit TAB. Usually Tab activates the menu. In the advent this does not work type "bind tab "menu"" at the console. Now it should work. Gameplay Information -------------------------- The game is like capture the flag. Except when you get to the opposite teams base. There is a chicken instead of a flag. All players start with all weapons and homing rockets. At the opponents base when you try to grab the chicken....whoopee....you turn into a chicken or a cow!! You now, can fly, have all weapons, but no homing rockets. You also have 2:00 minutes to live......before you blow up. Unless you get the chicken powerup. Better try to get some more life....becuase yours is now down to 30. And everyone else has homing rockets. :) So if your going to die......the least you can do is to try to die near one of your own players...since he can pick up the chicken from you before it auto-respawns back to its base. There are many cool added features such as Cow and chicken powerups and even some Rocket Arena type sounds. There is a game supported that is called powerto cheer for your teammates, but please do not give out health numbers! You may switch teams by using the start menu. But you may nor rejoin your own team. Observer Options ---------------- You may hit TAB to bring up the observer menu. From there you can leave the arena, or go to a chase cam. "Joins Cows Team": It is not an option for pickup teams. "Joins Chickens Team": It is not an option for pickup teams. "Goto Arena 1": It is not an option for one on one gameplay. "Chase Cam": From here you may watch the gameplay.
