It's very simple and the map design was actually pulled from a sample map on a store bought copy of qED, the map was called "Telecross" (duh) and was copied from a deathmatch map for Doom. If you are wanting to get into building Quake or Quake 2 maps, I suggest starting a map like this or even this map, it is very simple and includes some of the most basic entities. This map may be freely distributed, and may even be used as the basis for other maps, all I ask is that you please include this text file (I can't stop you from not doing so, but it would be nice) with any map generated from this one.
