STORY
You awake to find the sergeant staring at you with an evil grin
on his face.
"Get the hell outta bed, soldier!" he yells.
Oh god no, you think to yourself. Not this guy again, I remember
him from CTF basic training.
Before you know it, you are standing outside basecamp in a line
with about five or six other soldiers. You glance around, and you see
your old buddies Zoid and Tokay. standing at the end of the line.
A few minutes later, the sergeant steps out of the barracks and stands
in front of you and your colleages. Everyone stands at attention,
including you. The sergeant takes of the sack that he was carrying
on his back and begins handing out weapons to everyone in the line.
You take yours, and you examine it. It is a greenish type blaster,
but it just doesn't seem like a weapon. It has two barrels, one where
it usually would be on a pistol, and one in the handle.
The sergeant stands in front of your group and starts talking.
"Soldier 4297," he explains, "That there is an Arrowstorm. Remember
your chaingun? Well forget it, this will replace it. This little baby
fires like a chaingun only lots slower and a bit more accurately.
Your range is limited with this weapon, however." He walkes over to you,
pulls out a regular blaster, and hands it to you as well. He takes your
new weapon and loads it. "What the hell did he put in there," you think
to yourself.
"Draw your weapon and point it at me, and I'll put my arms in the air!" he
commands you. You do so, and he puts his hands up. Being the way you are,
and how much you hate this guy, you decide to try your luck.
"Whatcha gonna do now, sarge?"
He looks at you, smiles, and before you know it, you are on your ass
with your blaster laying on the ground beside you. "This here is what
we call a Secret Shot. Comes in handy at times like this, wouldn't ya
say, Soldier 3585?"
INSTALLATION
Just unzip the files contained in the archive, to a
directory called "NerfQ2" in your Quake2 folder,
RESTORING PATHNAMES. This means that if you're
using Winzip, you must enable the "Use Folder Names"
option when extracting. Pkunzip users should use the -d option.
RUNNING THE GAME
Like any Quake2 mod, to start Nerf Quake II you must start
Quake2 with a command line. Windows users should right-click and
select "new" -> "shortcut". When prompted, use the browse button
to find where you installed Quake2, and then add the necessary
extra parameters in the "command line" box.
It should look something like this:
quake2.exe +set game nerfq2
From there you can use the server commands to set play style and misc stuff.

PLAY STYLES
Ahh, here is where Nerf Quake II blows away all other mods.
We have packed as many play styles as possible into our mod.
Below is a list and summary of the play styles in the game.
DEATHMATCH
Normal free for all game, only with the Nerf weapons and items.
TEAMPLAY
Two to four teams play against each other, only with Nerf
weapons and items.
SUDDEN DEATH
DM variation where you are eliminated ("killed") in one shot.
CAPTURE THE FLAG
Based on Zoid's famous CTF mod, this style uses all the rules for
a normal CTF game, only with Nerf weapons and items.
FREEZE TAG
Ever played freeze tag with your friends in your backyard? Well,
now you get to play it with up to 64 people. There are two teams,
and when you get shot by someone on another team, you are frozen
until a teammate of yours comes and tags you to unfreeze you. The
object is to freeze everyone on the opposing team.
*More styles to come in later versions!
THE RADIO
In Ginty Hour, the marines have special two-way radios
to communicate with each other. To send a message, you use
the client command "tradio x" where x is the name of the
file with the message you want to send.
Example: tradio treport
This would send the "treport" message to everyone on your team.
Here is the list of available commands:
coverme
(Cover me!)
enemyd
(Enemy down!)
enemys
(Enemy Spotted.)
go
(Go!!)
hit
(I'm hit!)
report
(Reporting in.)
takingf
(Taking fire, requesting assistance!)
treport
(Team, report in.)
teamdown
(Teammate down.)
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Did Action Quake II team really give you consent to use their radio sounds?
Well, not really. We feel this doesn't hurt them.
If, by chance, they want us to remove them, we would
be happy to do so.
Q: How do I start a(n) X play style?
From the Quake2 console, type "set game nerfq2" without
the quotes. When the game switches, type set X 1, where
"X" is the game name (as stated above in the server
command list.) Then type "map q2dm1" without the quotes
and start playing!

One thing you may notice when you get into the game is that you
