175 x 230 pixels
**** in relation to the standard male player model. The
compare picture can be done in a number of ways. The point of
the pic, is to compare relative sizes of the standard id model to the
user created model. If you have any problems or questions on
creating this, please contact a site member about it, and we will
either help you generate it or generate it for you. it should be named
"model-male.jpg" with model
being the name of the model. |
if
the model comes from another source like Homer or Boba Fett, try to
dig up an image of the character is its original format, so people can
make the connection easier and can see how good/bad of a job the
author did on the translation to low polygons.
The intro pic should be
a max 200 pixels tall by how-ever-many-needed wide. if you need more
than one pic, that's fine just try to keep the sizes down and not
everyone has a fat pipe to the net.
Make sure all pictures
have been palletized down to 8 bit optimized palette, and is either
jpeg or gif format. All of quake's images textured with 8 bit
textures, so you will not notice any image loss.
Intro
LA LA LA LA LA
All text is to be
10 point Arial. fell free to highlight needed areas, with whatever
colors you need. the default color should work for most. its
that pale yellowish color.
For the intro, you just
need to give a basic idea of what the model is about. give a few basic
opinions and descriptions and move on.
you will also need a
couple of screenshots for this section. this is just the base
model with its standard skin. should be 200 pixels tall as well,
by whatever wide. if you would like to show off more skins or
poses, feel free, but make them 150 pixels tall just to conserve
download time. If you just have to have 2 pics, its ok if they
are both 200 high, just be very careful, 100's of people look at these
things and we want to allow even the slowest user a descent chance at
seeing the review in a reasonable amount of time.
all pics and graphics
[this includes the background on a couple of the cells] will need to
be linked into the html is a certain way, for it to work properly on
the servers. I've left a couple of picture links in the page so
that you get the idea. the picture below goes to:
gfx/yohko-1.gif
and that's it.
the way that it's set up is there's a "models" directory and
all the reviews and info pages are placed under this. then all
graphics are placed in a directory called "gfx" and are
linked from there as the path above illustrates. All graphics
and screenshots need to be named for the model that they are being
taken of. again as shown above, as this template is a modified
version of the yohko review. you can use any naming convention
that you feel comfortable with, but for future needs, the pictures
need to start with the model's name.

The
Model
ahh the
subjective parts. this is where you're free to say what you
will. a couple of obvious things to note:
this
needs to be a fairly technical stance on the model. i don't want
to see it say "looks like a chicken" talk a bit about
how the model is actually constructed, is is proportioned right, is it
tall, short fat, is the polygon count high, why/why not, could it have
been used better, what's the capitol of Oregon... i think you
get the idea, this is to be an in depth look at the model not just
that it looks cool or not. Also try to keep each section of the
review separate. in the model section concentrate on the model, not
the animations and not the skin. and same with the rest.
it helps focus you on each section. granted sometimes you have
to mention that "this help the animations" or whatever, I'm
not saying to ignore everything, just stay focused.
The model is stunning in
quality. An accurately modeled, proportional correct figure. She's about as close as
it comes to a perfect model as you can expect with low polycounts. Even the dress is
treated well, especially as how he blends it into the body. It does collide with the
legs often enough, but do to the low poly nature of the models in general, its very hard
to put enough polys into the skirt to allow proper folding of the fabric to keep it out of
the thighs. As he says this is his first attempt at cloth, I'd say its a very solid
first effort at it. There is a few spots of minor criticism to be noted though. [ I
couldn't just say the thing was without faults, that goes against everything we stand for
right? ;p ] The feet are a little boxy. Ok, ok, a lot boxy. Although he uses
the skin to hide this pretty well, the few extra poly spent here probably couldn't have
hurt much on the overall count. The next spot, moving up her body, is the knees.
They seem slightly on the thin side. I think that they are probably fine actually but the
real culprit is the calves. They might be a bit more robust in comparison to the rest of
the physique yet seem fine themselves. I think are throwing the knees out of whack
visually. But this is a very subjective issue and I will not use it in the final scoring.
One thing that isn't subjective is her neck. Its pencil thin. I don't think she could
swallow bird seed with that esophagus is so thin. :) But she's an anime character
and some of the proportions do get exaggerated, so the only bad thing I could possibly
find is the feet. This is easily 5 star rating.
Score:
The Animations
All score
are based on a 5 point scale with half star increments, basically giving
you 0-10 ratings if it makes it easier to think about in that way.
The animations on this model
are yet another stunning part of this project. The author really added a charm and a class
to the model with her various animations. All the moments are rather precise and
fluid. Not a hint of any stuttering or chopiness that some models display. One of
the nicer elements was that the model uses a sword as her main weapon. The author
used this idea and really made it work. During one of the taunt animations she
sticks it in the ground and steps forward, then steps back and retrieves it. The
stand animation uses it as almost a focus point showing where the model is looking at and
pivoting her weight around. It simply works well and is quite believable.
Another item that the author excelled at was the dress. The author found this to be
a rather tedious element to animate and I dont doubt that at all. The was also his first
attempt at modeling cloth. Although the number of frames really dont allow for true
motion of the cloth, what it there works amazingly well. If more frames were allowed, it
might not have worked as well, or he may have had to animate it differently. As it
stands, its a first class effort.

this
should be obvious, and if you can dig links that either help explain
the character or if you rip images from some place, place the links
here. also if an author has done multiple models try to get the other
review links in there, if you have any questions, just ask.

The Skin
the skins are usually
pretty easy to discuss, but don't forget to at least touch on the skin
layout on the 2d plane. you should obviously consider the
overall appearance of the skins, how many are included, CTF skins how
they are done, is it just a simple color swap through them, and how efficient
or easy it is for other people to do skin for it, is the layout
logical, is the symmetrical mapping trick taking advantage of space or
not... don't forget how the skins compare to the orignal
character if its something like Homer or Garfield.
The skins are the only weak point
of the model. But as I say "weak", its only that this is only a hair under
the quality of the rest of the model. The skins are of the basic Devil Hunter outfit
from the anime as to be expected. The author also, refreshingly, added shading to
the skin. As this is a "cartoon" model, some authors feel that a
monochromatic skin will suffice due to that's how its presented in its native media.
I'm a strong believer against this. The skinning should respond to the
environment and reflect the media that's being used to represent the character. This
is what the skins give us on this model. It allows the model to become more
immersive to the game and that's in the end whole point of texture mapping. The
author also included capture the flag skins. As the standard outfit is already red,
he simply redid the skin once for the blue skin, but it works rather well.
Score:
The Sound
to rate the sounds you,
really have to play as the model for a couple of rounds of dm.
Also as a general rule, long drawn out sounds that are ripped quotes
or something are usually not desirable, but its like everything
depends. the homer ones work well. also if a pack is
released after the model comes out, check with the author if they
"offical" or not. many authors want nothing to do with the
sound packs that pop up after the fact.
Score:
DeathMatch Images
These don't necessarily
need to be dm shots, they can be from skin view, but the point is to
show what they look like in the actual game with the player's camera
at the right perspective. include a tasty joke or jab too if you
want, comment on the scenes or whatever.

bullets... use your imagination." - EvilBastard

Visible Weapons Support
This is fairly easy,
and it does get a grade. if its all new models, then grade that,
but be a bit easy and thats a large undertaking. if they simply
reanmiated the id weapons, thats perfectly acceptable, but just grade
how well it works with the character and how it matches the
animations.
There is no current VWep support built directly into the
model.
There is a add-on VWep pack put out by another author,Frag-Me Elmo. It has been approved but not endorsed by the model's author, so I
like to list it seperately. VWep pack.
The problem is that the animations take such advantage of
the sword, that adding in the standard weapons looks a little odd.
Pack Eligibility
Most models will be
fairly easy to figure out in or out, if its boarder line, either make
you best call or write a staff member and ask their opinion
The Yohko model is going to be included in the next pack
easily. And frankly she's a breath of fresh air to the rather static offering of
females model to date.
